Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The client is unclothed to their comfort level and appropriately draped. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved appearance, and greater flexibility.
Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that is anatomically specific to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. It requires very little lotion or oil in order for the therapist to engage with the tissue effectively. The client is unclothed to their comfort level and is appropriately draped for the work. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, proper warming of the tissue and open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don't get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness may occur after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session.
Myofascial massage is a technique that it targets the fascia - the connective tissue that encases muscle cells - as well as the muscle itself. Since fascia completely encases every muscle in the body, imbalances in the fascia can have serious effects on your range of motion and comfort level. This technique addresses specific muscle injury sites to reduce pain and increase range of motion. Special attention is paid to working muscle attachment sites and working with or across the muscle fibers. No oils or lotions are used in order for the therapist to properly engage with the tissue. The client is unclothed and appropriately draped during the work. The session includes a postural and range of motion assessment before the work and reassessment after the work is done.
Shiatsu is a Japanese form of massage therapy. The word Shiatsu comes from two Japanese words - "shi" (finger) and "atsu" (pressure). In addition to the direct stimulation of pressure points along the energy pathways of your body, gentle stretching techniques are applied over a wider area of the body to integrate the point work and encourage the flow of Chi (energy) throughout the body. Shiatsu is a meditative healing art that honors the body, mind and spirit. The client remains comfortably clothed, lying on a mat or table. No oils or lotions are used in this modality.
Energy work is based on the belief that everything in the universe is made up of energy. The law of conservation of energy states that energy cannot be created nor destroyed. It only changes form. When energy pathways are blocked because of physical or emotional trauma physical symptoms may arise such as emotional or physical illness. I assess the client's chakra energy flow with a quartz crystal pendulum and employ polarity holds that support the client's ability to natural unblock those energy flows. This is not a mechanical form of body work. The client remains clothed and on a table. Session length can only be estimated to take anywhere from 30-120 minutes depending on the severity of the energy blockage.
